How to plan a salon restock without overbuying

Open notebook with makeup brushes and bottles on a stone table

Running out of a best-selling shampoo halfway through the month is frustrating. So is a cupboard full of masks nobody books. A simple restock routine fixes both, and it takes about twenty minutes a month.

1. Count what you used, not what you bought

At the end of each month, note how many units of each product you opened at the back bar and how many you sold at the counter. Usage tells you what to reorder. Purchases only tell you what you guessed last time.

A notebook or a simple spreadsheet is enough. Write the product, the size, opened this month, sold this month, and what is left on the shelf.

2. Split your list into three groups

  • Always in use: wash basics, colour and developer, and styling products you reach for every day.
  • Booked services: keratin, spa and bond treatments, ordered to match your bookings.
  • Retail shelf: products clients take home. Start small and add what sells.

Reorder the “always in use” group a little before you need it. Order the rest to match real bookings.

3. Send one clear list

Write product names, brands and rough quantities in one message. A photo of your current bottles works too. One list means you get one reply with availability and prices, and fewer surprises.

A quick checklist before you order

  • List your essentials and how many you used last month
  • Ask about availability and close alternatives
  • Confirm price, billing and delivery or pickup

Keep last month’s list. After two or three months you will see a pattern, and restocking becomes a quick check instead of a guess.
